Chinese furniture is a true celebration of artistry and craftsmanship. There are so many elements that make classical chinese home furnishings unique. Some of which are the kind of wood and materials used to construct these pieces of art.Both Hard Wood and Soft Wood Are Used in Chinese FurnitureSome examples of hard wood are Hongmu, Huanghuali, Jichimu, Tielimu and Zitan. Some examples of soft wood are Huamu, Jumu and Nanmu. Hongmu is a dark brown wood that is also sometime known as black wood. Hongmu is very similar to Huanghli abnd Zitan. Jichimu was used before the middle of the Qing dynasty and is grainy. When cut a certain way, the wood creates patterns that resemble birds. Materials play a huge part when analyzing Chinese antique furniture. There are so many different kinds of wood used in making these pieces of furniture. Each different kind of wood is traditionally used during a different period of time in Chinese history.
